I was looking for a quiet retreat but wasn't quite sure where to go. The last place I actually thought of was the Canary Islands, until I came across Hotel Jardin De La Paz.
Just under an hours drive from the airport, the hotel is set the north of Tenerife, amongst the lush greenery of the island on a side road just off the main highway. As soon as we walked through the entrance the first thing we saw over the Spanish rooftops, was the ocean and the famous volcano Mount Teide.
The whole hotel is set on a hill, so there are many stairs to and from the different areas of the resort. The rooms are all individual apartments or villas, each with their own design and setting. Ours was big enough for a family of four, set over two floors with a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room and private garden.
The hotel is surrounded by exotic flowers and plants, and fresh lemon and lime trees. As for the pools, there are two that majestically overlook the ocean. In many ways it reminded me of the Amalfi Coast.
The pool was my bliss. I lay there for hours with no sounds of cars or people, and you can hardly hear the ocean too, even though it is right in front of you.
Breakfast is served each morning on a beautiful outdoor patio with an ocean view, but lunch and dinner is all yours, to have as you like, in your apartment, or at a local restaurant.
There is also a small massage / spa area and a sauna that overlooks the ocean. And as for the staff, they were always at hand with any questions we had.
This is a little secret gem that many tourists visiting Tenerife would never even know about. It's a place where you will find peace, beauty, nature and time to recharge.
